Curriculum vitae

Dr. Robert A. Roe (1944) is emeritus professor of Organizational Theory and Organizational Behavior at Maastricht University. He is visiting professor at the University of Trento (Italy), the University of Valencia (Spain), the University of Leipzig (Germany), and the University of British Columbia (Canada). He is currently President of the European Federation of Psychologists' Associations (EFPA) and consultant in the area of personnel and organization.

Robert Roe studied psychology at the University of Amsterdam where he obtained his Master's degree (cum laude) in 1969 and his PhD in 1975. He worked as a researcher at the Institute of Social and Industrial Psychology and as assistant professor at the University of Amsterdam, before being appointed as full professor in Work and Organizational Psychology at Delft University of Technology (1980). He held the chair in W&O Psychology at Tilburg University (1988-1999), and the part-time chair in Organizational Psychology at the University of Nijmegen (2002). Next he was professor of Organizational Theory and Organizational Behavior at Maastricht University. During the years 1999-2001 he was general director of the Netherlands Aeromedical Institute in Soesterberg, the Netherlands.  

Robert Roe has worked on a wide range of topics in personnel and organizations, including personnel selection and appraisal, career development, information technology in organizations, work performance, leadership, teams, organizational culture, organizational change, impacts of economic transformation, and methods of organizational assessment. Currently his focus is on research and theory-building from a temporal perspective, with as emphasis on motivation, learning and performance of individuals and teams.

Robert Roe has taught in work psychology, personnel psychology, organizational psychology, organizational behavior, organizational theory, and research methodology for graduate, MBA and PhD students in psychology and business administration. He teaches International HRM at UBC in Vancouver, Organizational psychology at the University of Trento in Rovereto, Work Analysis, and Theory and Applications of Design in the European Master W&O Psychology of the Erasmus Mundus Programme. He gives seminars en workshops in temporal research en design for practice.

Robert Roe is founding-president of the European Association of Work & Organizational Psychology (EAWOP, 1991-1995) and founding-director Work & Organization Research Center in Tilburg (WORC, 1991-1997). He has a broad international experience, especially in Europe. He has organized dozens of scientific conferences, symposia and workshops and took part in several international research projects.

Robert Roe has written more than 400 scientific and professional publications, including several books. Some known titles are: 'Grondslagen der personeelsselectie', 'Psychologie der Arbeidsomstandigheden', 'Personeelsbeoordeling: Achtergronden en toepassingen', 'Telematics and work', and 'Time in Organizational Research'. He has been editorial board member of several scientific journals, including the Journal of Organizational Behavior (USA) and the European Journal of W&O Psychology (Europe).
