Welcome
I am Full Professor of Computer Science in the Department of Knowledge Engineering at Maastricht University. Before joining Maastricht University, I was the Scientific Director of SCCH GmbH (Austria). The mission of SCCH is to strengthen the competitiveness of companies through problem-oriented research and innovative development in the areas of Knowledge based Technology, Software and Engineering Technology, and Database Technology. Before that, I was Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department of Technical University Munich (Germany) where I headed the AI/Cognition research group at the Chair for Theoretical Computer Science and Foundations of Artificial Intelligence.
Over the past years I have been engaged as a scientific consultant and advisor for various European companies, including e.g. Siemens and EADS, with a particular focus on bi-directional know how transfer between industry and academia.
I received my PhD in Computer Science from Technical University Munich and the Habilitation Degree from Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria).
My main interests are in artificial intelligence and knowledge based systems in general, and in multiagent technology and cooperative systems in particular. Among the topics I have covered in my research and teaching so far are, for instance, computational autonomy, automated negotiation; languages and protocols for knowledge-level communication and coordination processes; automated detection of conflicts among cooperative entities; multiagent learning; and agent-oriented software engineering.
I have published extensively in my fields of interest, both as a (co)author and (co)editor, including refereed books and articles in journals and proceedings. Among the publications I edited is the book "Multiagent Systems" (MIT Press) which is a reference volume in field wordwide. I have served on various conference program committees and scientific boards, and I am in the editorial boards of several international AI / computer science journals.
Thank you for your interest in my work.
