The Public Economics IES Track: summary of the track in pdf format
The Public Economics track is intended to prepare economists for careers in the formation and/or implementation of economic policies or for careers in which the evaluation and interpretation of economic policies is central, e.g., in the public sector and with the government and related (research) institutions, or in the financial sector, e.g., at banks or other financial institutions. The key objective of Public Economics is the study of the public sector and its influence on the economy and society. The track core courses focus on tax and public debt policies, public finance, and information economics (i.e., regulations and incentives). To complement these courses, electives from the Master tracks in Behavioral Economics and International Competition Policy are available. Finally, the Public Economics track is accompanied by the “Microeconomics Master Seminar (MEMS)”, a regular meeting, were students and invited speakers give insights into their work experiences as applied economists and present their research results.
